I'm sure the E30 318iS was the first "S" model to hit your shores, but here in the US the E21 320iS (with a single cam 1.8 liter motor) was available as early as 1981. I know because I raced one and won the BMW Motorsport Trophy for North America with it 3 times. Best handling car I ever drove; and I also raced the twin-cam E30 318iS -- a great handling car, but not the equal of the "gutless" E21 320iS!
